Bahamas

If you are looking for a tropical getaway in the Caribbean, Bahamas is a great one to consider. The water is beautiful and bath water warm. This was one of my first tropical vacations and was my "gateway" to paradise. I stayed at The Cove Atlantis, which is the adults only hotel at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. The "aerial" shots below are photos I took from the balcony of my room, so the ocean view rooms on the upper levels definitely offer some stunning sights! If you are traveling as a couple and looking for a romantic trip, then I would recommend The Cove as you will have exclusive access to the adults-only swimming pool and the hotel itself isn't as full of kids as the other Atlantis hotels. However, if you are traveling with family and kids, then the Atlantis Resort would be more appropriate due to close proximity to all of the family friendly amenities. At either hotel, you will still have access to the 141-acre water park that boasts eighteen water slides, a lazy river, and twenty swimming pools! The Atlantis Resort has an aquarium, a casino, and several restaurants, such as Nobu, which are easily accessible as a guest of The Cove as well. My stay was a relaxing getaway and we had a lot of fun!

During your trip, I would definitely recommend booking an excursion to Exuma island, which is about a 45-minute speed boat away. Here, you can relax on a remote island with crystal clear waters, snorkel, and feed sharks and iguanas. If you are interested in swimming with pigs, which is a popular tourist attraction, it is also in Exuma but a bit farther away (1-2 hours).

when to go

Like all the other countries in the Caribbean, the best time to go is from late December to mid-April as hurricane season is from June to November. Spring Break is from March to mid-April, which could make this area very crowded.

things to do

  • Swim with dolphins at Dolphin Cay or feed stingrays at the Atlantis resort
  • 18-hole golf course at the Atlantis resort
  • 40 bars/lounges/restaurants at the Atlantis (accessible by guests at the Cove as well), also a nightclub and casino; visit the aquariums
  • Enjoy the Aquaventure waterpark
  • Hang out at the beach right by the resort
